Here are 3 items you have at home that work for a boudoir session

Bringing several outfits to a boudoir session can show off your unique personality. And good news: you don’t have to break bank to have more opportunities to play dress up. You likely own what you already need for your session. Don’t be afraid to pull from your existing wardrobe and pick pieces that you feel confident wearing. A variety of outfits can accentuate our favorite parts, and hide and parts that we'd rather stay hidden.

Here are some of my favorite options that you could LIKELY find somewhere in your home or closet. Almost everything has potential in a photoshoot, it just requires a little creative thinking.

1) A t-shirt or sweater

I loved Miss L’s diverse style, which included a long-sleeved t shirt from her home drawer... and not much else. The full coverage shirt was sentimental, and it gave her confidence in front of the camera after a surgical scar left her a bit nervous to show her stomach.

Skirts, sweaters, existing bra sets, jackets, and button-ups are all things that we can usually find in our closets. If not then they are always pieces to choose from off of the 90% off rack at Macy's (they are looking out for us!). Picking items from your closet will ensure that you're comfortable and will also almost always promise to show off a truer 'you'.

2) A one-piece bodysuit!

All hail the one-piece! it doesn't look like your grandmother's bathing suit (I promise!!!!), there is something remarkably sexy and flattering about one pieces. TRY THEM ON. I love what they do for boudoir photography, and not all one pieces are made equally. You likely have a bodysuit in your closet. It doesn't have to be lingerie, it can be one you got from Zara or Target... the point is to wear it a little differently than you would normally. I am talking about wearing it without pants. :)

Bodysuits come in ALL varieties and torso lengths.... so if you have never found a bodysuit that works for you then you haven't found the right place. So many brands now offer bodysuits in Short/Regular/Long rather than the one-size-fits-all-crotches. We all know that isn't true.

3) Something from the tool shed

I wrote that title as kind of a joke, but if I am being honest.... yes please bring all of the tool shed items. What I really mean is that you likely have great "accessories" and "props" hiding in your tool shed or random junk drawer. Bring in the measuring tape, the rope, the fire extinguisher (??? I just came up with this idea). Regardless, there are a lot of household and garage items that work perfectly for a boudoir session.

The Shibari rope practice is so beautiful to photograph. While I recommend purchasing the rope designated for this practice (Shoshinsha has a great guide HERE), a rome from home will do in a pinch!
