Milestone Session Series Part 3: Becoming the Woman She Always Was

We've been sharing the stories of the incredible women who took part in our Milestone Session project this year — a celebration of the clients, friends, and community that have supported my boudoir photography journey over the past decade. Every woman in this project has one thing in common: they trusted me with a camera and, in the process, found something in themselves worth celebrating.

Today's story is about a woman I met a little over a year ago. She took the brave plunge to book one of our Special Edition sessions before doing a full session with me. Those sessions are fast, wild, and leave little room to get comfortable... but she didn't need that! From the moment she pulled up for her very first session, I could tell she was someone who had spent her whole life giving everything she had to everyone around her — and very little of it back to herself. What I didn't know yet was just how much she had carried to get there. She showed up ready to show off and be seen.

So many of the women I photograph are mothers first. They are caretakers, protectors, the ones who hold the family together no matter what it costs them personally. That role is beautiful, and it is also, so often, the thing that makes a woman forget she is allowed to take up space for herself too. This client's story is that in its fullest form — a woman who built something extraordinary while carrying weight most people never see.

As a proud mother of an autistic son, she has spent the last decade advocating, adapting, and showing up for her child in ways that never make it into anyone's highlight reel. In that same stretch of time, she launched and grew her own vineyard and winery — an entire legacy, built from nothing, with her own hands. And she did it all while surviving domestic violence, an experience that left her with a broken arm and could have left her with far less than a legacy. It didn't.

Boudoir is one of the ways I get to watch women meet themselves again after years of putting everyone else first.

For this client, it wasn't about a physical transformation or a milestone birthday — it was about finally, for the first time, letting herself see what the rest of us had seen in her all along. Strength. Beauty. A woman who survived, who built, who mothered, and who deserves to feel every bit as proud of herself as she should.

I asked each participant in this project to write a "blurb" about their milestone. Here is hers, in her own words:

"In the last decade, as a proud mother of an autistic son, I built a lasting legacy by launching and growing my own vineyard and winery. I have faced and overcome profound personal challenges, including surviving domestic violence that left me with a broken arm. Through it all, I feel deeply blessed and, for the first time, I am truly appreciating the beauty and the woman I've become."
