Props? Oh yes, bring your props | Atlanta Boudoir Photographer

J.K. Rowling and Yo Yo Ma would be so proud.

When this lovely client came to our Atlanta studio last year with her "can I bring props to my boudoir session" question we went all 'Broad City' and were like "YAAASSS QUEEN". Of course, we tend to say "YAS" before asking for more information, but we haven't been burned yet.

(That being said, please don't surprise me by bringing some weird prop like a taxidermy fox-thing, IDK what to do with that).

During our questionnaire and wardrobe planning process, which you can read more about in a few posts back, she elaborated that she'd love to bring in her cello as well as the candles she'll use at her October wedding. Insert a sigh of relief from us that she wasn't bringing a taxidermy fox.

I'll admit, working my lighting with the candles proved to be a bit of an equation at first. I was 0% satisfied with a lot of the images, but with a little experimentation and a LOT of micro adjustments I finally got it right. Cue Harry Ma, which is my combo of Harry Potter and Yo Yo Ma. Deal with it.

To date, these candles and the cello are some of my favorite unique props that have been brought in to the boudoir studio! I’m currently on my way to San Francisco for a few boudoir sessions (Yippeee!!!!!) and I can’t wait to see the props that these ladies come up with :)

Check out our new studio piece... | Atlanta Boudoir Photographer

I've wanted a new piece of furniture for our boudoir studio for a while. However, I knew that any new piece I added would need to have a function to it. Storage is all that I could come up with, until I saw a neighborhood posting.

While growing up my parents made my brothers and I (there are three of us all together) take piano lessons. I say "made" because we would kick and scream in order to avoid practicing, and my parents would watch us (or close the door) until we stopped and reluctantly touched the keys again.

Fast forward to many years later (mannnyyyyyyyy years), I have a new appreciation for piano and I actually miss playing. I miss playing so much that I knew immediately that my new piece of "furniture" would actually need to be a piano. A piano neeeeeeeded to be in my life. I could not only revisit a semi-beloved creative outlet, I could have a killer prop for the boudoir studio. Plus, I'm of course going to teach my clients piano lessons during their boudoir sessions. Duh.

Well, my dreams came true and my habit of perusing internet yard-sale sites paid off.

I found a piano.

The story of how I actually GOT this piano and was able to move it in to my studio (I think it weighs 700lbs) is something that you'll have to ask me at your boudoir session.

For now, it's working as a great addition to our studio and my musical brain.

La la la la la,

Sarah
