Color or Black and white? That's the age-old question!

“How do you decide which images will be in color vs black and white?”

This is one of the most common questions that I get, but not from clients! I get this question from fellow boudoir photographers (and other genres) as they are getting started on their jorney, or as they are just trying to refine their skills.

The truth is, it’s VERY rare that I strongly feel one way or the other about a boudoir image’s edit. Occasionally I’ll capture in image that I know I’ll want to be in black and white, and those images are usually ones to do with movement (so a blurry boudoir hair flip) or light-shaping (silhouette shots and boudoir images with subtle highlights on the skin).

Regardless of MY preference, it really boils down to whatever the client prefers. Sometimes clients come in to our boudoir studio and say they prefer black and white, but then when they see their images they are in love with the color photos. Sometimes it happens the other way around. The best part about being one of our boudoir clients? You get to see BOTH versions when we view your boudoir images! The extra bonus? Any digital images purchased/selected after your boudoir session will come with both versions, so the decision can be left up to our clients.

Here are a few of my favorite: “Color or BW???” images as of late!

Starting 2024 out with my favorite gifts for MYSELF

Now that gift-giving for others is over, here are my favorite gifts for ME (and for you!). Start your year off with a little treat for yourself. My focus this year is going to be on taking care of ME so that I am better for others. This is 100% based on the airplane logic of putting on your oxygen mask before helping someone else, but I really and truly believe it.

Here are my top gifts for myself that I believe make my life better, therefore making me better :) Plus… a lot of them are very fun.

  1. Bose Headphones: For traveling (or for when you just need some quiet while reading your favorite smutty book), these are my absolute favorite headphones. I’ve tried a few different noise-cancelling headphones but these are comfortable, don’t squeeze your head too much, and stay charged for a long time. I highly recommend them, plus they come in a gorgeous matte dark green. BONUS: they’re on sale

  2. Comfy robe: I’m definitely a bathrobe girl, mainly because I like feeling like I’m wearing a blanket. This robe is light enough to not sweat through it, but cozy enough to be able to work from home/read/lounge in happiness.

  3. The best instant bronzing oil (not a tanner!) ever: This oil has a few different shades, so it can be applied to a wide range of skin-tones. It has the perfect amount of shimmer to it so that you instantly look glowy and toned up. Apply all over to give yourself an instant boost of confidence. Also, it smells like the beach.

  4. I love a bougie candle. This Dyptique candle is universally loved and it has an amazing scent that isn’t too sweet. This is one of my favorite candle brands and its wax won’t clog your air filters. TIP: I love using the glass vessle as a vase/pen holder/etc once the candle is finished! Just fill the glass with hot soapy water to remove extra wax and wick.

  5. I hear you like nudes? I’m very much into everything on this site. The monochromatic look is one of my favorites, but also I just love that they have a wide range of styles that are easily interchangeable. These are perfect for any capsule closet. Here’s one of my favorite pieces.

A few other favorite things? My Kindle (I read 43 books this year thanks to this and Kindle Unlimited), this Anthropologie candle knockoff from Target, fancy chocolates from this artisan chocolatier in the Atlanta area (they ship, too!).

… go treat yourself!
