The Questions Every Client Asks Me Before Their Session (And My Honest Answers)

There's a specific kind of question that doesn't show up in a typical FAQ page — the ones clients ask quietly, usually about ten minutes into our consultation once they trust me a little. Here are the honest answers.

"What if I don't feel sexy that day?"

You don't need to arrive feeling sexy, that's honestly what the session itself is for. Confidence isn't a prerequisite; it's often the outcome. My entire job is to coach you into it, one small pose and one good song at a time. You'll see photos on the back of the camera during your session so that you can know for SURE that we have a 100% success rate in creating amazing images.

"What if I cry?"

It happens more often than you'd think, usually a few days later when the sneak peek arrives. Seeing yourself through a genuinely admiring lens can be surprisingly emotional, especially if it's been a while since you looked in a mirror and felt kind toward what you saw. Tissues are always nearby.

"Should I lose weight or change something about myself first?"

Please don't. I photograph the body you have, and I do it well — that's my craft. Chasing some "ideal" version of yourself before booking only delays the thing you actually want, which is to feel good in your skin now.

"How do I prepare, physically?"

GREAT QUESTION! Keep it simple: hydrate, moisturize, get a good night's sleep, and wear something soft and zip-free on the drive over so you don't arrive with sock-lines. That's genuinely it. No last-minute crash diets or intense workouts required: your body doesn't need to earn this session. The only physical activity I recommend is stretching! That'll help keep you mobile and flexible during the session.

"What if my partner doesn't know I'm doing this?"

Plenty of clients book this entirely for themselves, no partner involved at all. And for clients doing it as a gift, I keep everything private and can build a discreet delivery option, like a printed album or box set, so the surprise stays intact. We go over all of your privacy options before your session, that way you don't have any post-session anxiety about where your images will be.

*We have also has clients give us private hard drives and SD cards so that they have all of the master images from their session, if this is an option that interests you please let us know.

"Will the photos actually look like me?"

Yes...and that's the whole goal! I edit for polish, not for a different face or body. You should look at your gallery and think "that's me on my best day," not "who is that?". That being said, I love a "WHO IS SHE?" moment when you see a photo and realize what was there all along.

If you've been carrying around a question you haven't said out loud yet, bring it to your consultation. I promise I've probably heard it before, and I promise you won't shock me!
